Kenzie stood beside Logan and dried the dishes he handed her. She felt like they had become good friends, as if theyâd known each other for years. Their friendship felt special. She liked having him around and not only for helping with the farm. Logan was a great guy and gorgeous, no doubt about it. His ocean blue eyes could stop her heart. Sheâd dreamed about running her hands through his shiny brown hair. The color reminded her of Booneâs coat: lush and cinnamon-colored. His hair was short on the side and longer on top; and she could see his hair had its own sassy attitude, exactly like its ownerâs. His hair framed exquisitely chiseled features. He was a tall man and toned, no, not tonedâripped. She longed to feel his lips on hers.
âKenz?â Logan asked.
Heâd just started calling her by her nickname Ginny used, and long ago, her brother, Marcus.
âHmm?â
âI asked if youâd like to watch a movie, or if youâre tired. Whereâd you go?â
âNowhere. Thinking about tomorrow is all. Yes, a movie sounds great. Got anything in mind?â
âItâs your turn to pick, since I picked last time.â
They finished cleaning the kitchen, and each picked up their wine glass. Logan grabbed the wine bottle and Dakota joined them on their way to the den. Logan switched the propane on, and the fireplace came to life. That was all the invitation Dakota needed. He stretched out on his bed in front of the fire and soaked in the warmth.
Logan sat in his usual spot on one end of the sofa. He set his wine glass and the bottle on the table beside him and pulled the oversized rectangular ottoman closer to him. He sat back and draped his arm along the back of the sofa. Kenzie set her glass down on the other end table between the sofa and one of the overstuffed chairs. She picked up the remotes and turned the television on. Instead of sitting in the chair, she sat on the other side of the sofa and surfed for a movie. She made her choice, grabbed her wine glass, and settled in close by. She faced his direction and tucked her legs up onto the sofa. Logan did not move his arm, which lay partially over the top of her. They made their usual critiques as the movie played, and before she knew it, Loganâs arm rested along her shoulders. A while later she handed her empty glass to Logan and snuggled into his warm side. He drew her closer as he wrapped his arm around her. This feels right, she thought.
Kenzie felt a cold, wet nose sniffing her ear. She brushed at it, still half asleep. In response Dakota nuzzled her neck with his nose. She opened one eye and glared at him. He never woke her during the night to go out unless he really had to go. She stretched out her legs and realized she had fallen asleep on the sofa and her pillow wasnât her pillow, but Loganâs body.
